THE Kuala Lumpur cricket arena will usher in a record 25 Under-15 teams from Australia, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore and Malaysia at the 5th KAF International Youth Cricket Carnival from July 22nd to 24th, 2011. And like last year, the Malaysian ladies cricket team will be participating in this year's edition of the carnival as well.
The carnival, organised successfully by Kuala Lumpur Cricket Association (KLCA) and Royal Selangor Club (RSC) over the past four years, received the International Cricket Council's award for Best Junior Initiative in the Asian Region 2010.
Adding a feather to its cap, this year's carnival welcomes Indian Cricketer of the Century 2002 Kapil Dev as its star guest-of-honour. Also present will be former Malaysian cricket internationals.
The much-awaited games, which have amassed a following over the years, will be played at five venues namely Royal Selangor Club Kiara, Kinrara Oval, Bayuemas Oval, Selangor Turf Club and Kelab Aman. The games will take place simultaneously over the three-days from 9am to 6pm. Entrance is free.
There is bound to be lots of excitement on the field with 142 matches played on a seven-overs per team format.
As in the spirit of a carnival, the platform bustles with activities on the ground including cricket skills competition, clinics on rugby and hockey, a food bazaar, hot air balloon rides for a minimal fee and other exciting events.
On July 23rd, the Under-15 participants, guests, parents and sponsors will be feted to a lively evening at an open-air tournament dinner at the Royal Selangor Club Bukit Kiara playing field. This year's charitable beneficiaries - Yayasan Chow Kit Nur Salam and The National Autistic Centre will also be present. The legendary Kapil Dev has graciously agreed to a dinner chat and short Q&A session. Tickets are priced at RM50. Dinner guests will be entertained by Malaysian illusionist, Anslem Roy and will have a chance to participate in an interactive game show. The highlight of the evening however will be a ten minute long fireworks display.
The tournament offering trophies will be broadcast over Astro Arena.
The main carnival sponsors are KAF Investment Bank Berhad, Yayasan Sime Darby and ING.
